Default Mazda TS2 dangerous immobiliser fault

Our Mazda TS2 had a dangerous immobiliser fault. The engine completely lost power and stopped soon after we pulled on to a motorway. We were lucky, we got on to the hard shoulder and the car was recovered by the AA. The car would not start, the immobiliser warning light came on when turning on the ignition, and flashed on attempting to start the car.

The garage has done a master reset and says the car is now running OK using both keys. There was no error message stored on the computer, so no one knows what caused the fault.

The car is five years old and has done 28,000 miles.

I wonder if any of you have had a similar experience or have any ideas or advice. This incident has shaken our confidence in an otherwise delightful and reliable car.

Best wishes,

Nick
