Rear seat belt fault?
#11
Common problems would have at least TSB, safety recall or a report filed with the NTSB, maybe even the NHTSA? I have not looked but as you seem to be informed do you have any to post?
The replacement of the belt is a one-by-one request to MAZDA. Most of those are rejected for older vehicle's and those that have more than the original owner and not on a safety recall. So sure, you can and should always try but don't get your feelings hurt if MAZDA rejects the request.

Yes I'll have to bite the bullet I guess
I tried cleaning it (soaked in a bucket of warm water) to no avail
Going to Mazda Monday with it.

Went to the main stealer about it this morning.
They only wanted to do a diagnostic check on it @ £120 (robin bar stewards).
Christ...The belt is unravelled and laying on the seat, how on earth is a diagnostic going to find that? Grrr.
Another case of robbing the customer.
I give up on Mazda (Snows, Portsmouth) Shame on you!!!

well, I'll be...........
I thought I'd have another go with WD40, I have one of those large tins with a long straw. So I sprayed loads of it into the opening, where the belt retracts in the hope it would dribble down to the mechanism.
It fully retracts now, and I put it on and yanked it firmly till it stopped, so I guess that did the job.
Don't think I'll have a crash to test it though

Wd40 for the win!
Many thanks to this forum. My GF's mazda2 failed its MOT this morning because rear seat wasn't retracting. Did some research and came across this forum. I took the covering panel off, sprayed the mechanism with wd40, yanked the seat belt and it worked!
