'07 M3 oil filter mount conversion question
Hi, I'm brand new here, and am actually posting regarding my wife's car, because I change the oil. I just got the filter for the first change, and have found out about the cartridge style filter, and what a pain it is, compared to what I've always been used to. Also stumbled upon some posts here about converting the filter mount to the spin on type, and is what I'd like to do, My question is will the same mount I've been reading about fit the '07 2.3 motor? I imaging it's the same as the '06, but I'm new to Mazda, so this would be where to ask, it seems. The part # is L301-14-310 for anyone that knows exactly what I'm talking about. Thanks in advance for any info on this! Oh, I was going to do the first change at 1000 miles, just because that is a rule of thumb to a lot of people on a new motor.............is that overkill with these, or is that smart to do? Again, thanks!

Can you please post some pics of your 07 m3. I have same situation with yours before with my m3 so I can be able to advise you some tips regarding mazda oil filter. Because my dad did the oil changing before with my m3 07.

RE: '07 M3 oil filter mount conversion question
I am also interested in doing this, my girlfriend wanted me to change her oil and I wasn’t happy to see that it was a cartridge style[:@]. I saw another thread where someone was saying how the plastic cover was damaged and resulted in a seized engin. I think is a stupid system. Mazda is just trying to encourage people to go to the dealership by discouraging people from changing there own oil.
This is all i could find on it:

Does anyone know if this will work on a 04 2.3?

RE: '07 M3 oil filter mount conversion question
This article was written some time ago as there are now many AM choices for the cartridge filter. I have recently bought several OE Mazda filters from an eBay seller @ $5.00 ea including shipping. I run synthetic oil, and change that around 10K, but do a new filter/top-off @ 5K.
Though the part numbers may have changed, yes, this can and has been done successfully. It is a conversion to the 2.0L's spin-on filter. It used to cost around $75 for the parts. Is it worth that to you?
I use a soft (canvas style) strap wrench on mine and haven't had any problems... but that's only if it gets stuck. Like a spin-on, you can usually justspin it off by hand, no tools required, if it hasn't been cranked on more than necessary to begin with.
Or, you could buy the proper OE tool ("wrench") from Protegegarge.com. for around $16. That's still a lot cheaper/easier than doing the conversion.
