Default 2004 Auto-Trans Buck

Nice to meet all you fine 'Mazda Lovers'

Our Mazda 3 had the dreaded Service Engine Light illuminate periodically starting 1 month ago. At the time of this occurence we also witnessed excessive transmission bucking at slow speeds when in the Auto-Shift-Mode. Brought the car to an authorized Mazda Dealership today and they scanned the computer for error. The find was a defective module, whos' job was commanding the transmission to shift at the proper interval...

Scan cost...$88.00...Fix total including Scan $315.00...'Pulse Generator' is supposedly the culprit.

This defective module is protected under the 50k warranty...Our Mazda has 50,600 on the OD...Which leaves us Outa-Pocket...

Any truth to all this?

TIA...Jack

I'd contact Mazda CS, and tell them that you were charged for a problem that shouldn't have been in the first place 600 miles out of warranty.
You may get some satisfaction, or you may not, but either way it's worth a try, imo.

Thank you virgin1for the reply!

My DW contacted Mazda to identify the part needed and warrantee grace period.

The Mazda rep replied "Never heard of the Pulse Generator"
We are scheduled for the fix this Tuesday morning.

I then googled the part and found it to be prone to failure in the Mazda ...BUT...far more failures reportedfor 'Hyundai' transmissions.

Jack
