2005, 2006 & 2007 MODELS DOOR LOCK DEFECT
Apparently all Mazda Models sharing the same lock and alarm design as the 2005, 6 & 7 Mazda 3
are affected by a design shortcoming that makes it much easier to break into them than cars from other manuafacturers.
This could affect all Mazda 3s, 5s 6s, MX 5 Miata, RX8, MPV
The problem is spreading as the break-in method becomes known and is passed from crook to crook.
I will not go into the details in an on-line forum but break-in method is easy and very successful and results
in the door lock and alarm being defeated and entry gained without the alarm going off. Damage is usually
$150 -$200 to the door.
I am interested in hearng from other owners and sharing information on what other owners have done about the problem.
If you have one of these vehicles, best advice so far is to either
a) empty vehicle of all valuables and leave all glove box doors etc open when parked
b) do a) and leave unlocked
c) install 3rd party alarm with shock absorber sensors and pager and ensure that there are stickers on driver and passenger door
warning of third party alarm installation

RE: 2005, 2006 & 2007 MODELS DOOR LOCK DEFECT
Both times my vehicle was broken into, they decided they wanted to get in any way they could. I still continue to lock all of my doors.
#1 - 84 Cavalier - Pulled lock cylinder completely out of the door, mushroomed door skin, destroyed door - No door lock would withstand this
#2 - 93 Chevy S-10 - Smashed pass window, vehicle had an armed alarm and was sitting in my parents driveway - didn't hear it go off
Don't ever leave anything valuable in any car. If they want it, they'll take it.

Probably with respect to any wiring concerns that may pop up. I had a dealer tell me that he couldn't honor my warranty because I put different tires on the car than the stock ones.....
