Default 2008 Mazda intermittent and under preforming AC

Got a 2008 Mazda 3 5spd
last few summers my ac hasn’t been performing well. Last year I tried a recharge in a desperate attempt to revive the system.
basically if it’s precooled by sitting in the shade or early in the morning the system can maintain cold, but if it’s been baking in the sun all day at work it can’t cool anything down. I either sweat for 30-40 minutes on my way home, or drive with the windows open.

last night I crawled under the see the compressor running and it only runs for 10 seconds then turns off for 5 seconds. When it turns on, the cooling fan clicks on, then off also after 10 seconds. Seems like a short time to click on and off repeatedly.

the air temp coming out of the vents is about 40 degrees after it’s been running on max cold for a few minutes. The pressure in the system via a recharge kit is 35-40 in 75-80 degree heat.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated as apparently Oregon now identifies as Afghanistan in the summer with 110+ degree days. 🙄🥵

I would take it to a professional AC shop and get both the high & low pressures checked & monitored.
