Default 2014 Side Mirror Glass Broken

Just the mirror glass is broken, everything else is working. I bought a replacement glass and it seems to be designed to use adhesive pads to attach the replacement glass over the broken glass. I'm more inclined to remove the broken glass from the backing plate and sensor and attach the replacement glass to the backing plate and sensor.
Has anyone removed broken glass from the backing plate? If so how did you go about doing it?
Any other suggestions are appreciated?

Where did you buy the replacement glass from?

Burco. Bought it through Amazon. Came with glass replacement 8 adhesive patches and instructions. It's for a 2014 Mazda 3.

Aside from simply wanting to know where you bought it , has nothing to do with what you question is. There are 2 kinds of mirror glass replacements. One is a complete glass/mirror the requires removing the old glass to install it which can be a bit more labor intensive and the other is a lay over that goes directly on top of a cracked mirror. You would need to make sure that which ever one you decide to get to read the instructions and cautions. For a complete glass/mirror replacements I would recomend to use and OEM provider or dealership?
Here is one of many examples of OE parts suppliers.
