Default About cams.

Does anyone know where to get some performance cams for the Mazda3 s? I was also wondering if installing cams will change the car's emissions. I live in Seattle, where we have to pass emissions tests. Any advice?

A cam will definitely change the emissions. Don't have to worry about that here in MI.

I believe Cosworth (search Yahoo, I don't have a link) has plenty of stuff for the 2.0/2.3, but you'd need to be able to tune the motor with the new cam which requires a programmable ECU. It's been done......

That cosworth page has some good stuff, but all the parts are for "duratech" engines, or for use with a ford focus. Does the focus have an identical engine to the 3?

It's not identical.

Getting the ECU is the easy part (haltech is one brand I can think of.), knowing what to do with it is the harder part.

If you didn't know that changing cams would change the emissions, do you think you have the knowledge to reprogram your fuel maps to make your car run properly? I'd suggest finding a local shop in your area that specializes in custom engine tuning. Do it wrong and you'll destroy your engine.

Mr.Tea on this forum (and others) has a turbo Mazda6 that required custom fuel mapping. (I stick with carbs on my go fast stuff...off road is where my real interests lie...)

No, I didn't think I had that knowlege. Of course I would be working with skilled professionals. You don't have to insult me.

I wasn't trying to insult you at all....I've seen plenty of people start tearing things apart only to find out they are in above their heads.
