Adjust display brightness for Android Auto

Adjust display brightness for Android Auto
Another quick question.
Is there a way to adjust the screen brightness when using Android Auto.?
I have set the brightness for using Mazda's inbuilt Sat Nav screen and have the Auto dimming mode set to on.
Setting the brightness to my liking for daytime use I find the Auto dimmed screen a little too dim but I can live with that if it's not adjustable.
However, sometimes I need to use the Android Auto apps and they are so bright I can't use them at all, even in the daylight they are extremely bright and distracting, at night they make it impossible to see clearly out of the windscreen.
The only way I have found I can use Android auto is to go into the Mazda settings and change the brightness to almost zero but that means when I switch back to using the Mazda connect screens it's too dim to see.
Am I missing something obvious or is there no way to adjust them independently?
