There really is no such a thing; traffic conditions, A/C usage, fuel formulations, transmission type, engine size, amount of time idling, aggressiveness when accelerating, and any number of other factors come in to play where fuel economy is concerned. Our 2016 Mazda3 s GT with the 2.5 liter mill and a 6-Speed manual transmission typically gets 32 mpg for my wife's daily commute and anywhere from 36 mpg to 38 mpg on the highway. The reality is, even the most fuel efficient conventional car in the world will get less than 10 mpg if traffic is heavy enough; that said, the numbers you are reporting are a bit below what is typically reported for SkyActiv-G Mazda3 cars.

I got around 32 mpg in my 2015 Mazda3 2.5 Touring with a 39 mile commute each way with about half city and half highway. The mileage was much better in the summer (when traffic was light) and much worse in winter (when the drive often took an extra half hour). The mileage is better down hill to work and worse up hill on the return trip.

Interestingly, my kids typically get far better mileage than I do on comparable routes. They drive slower.

My 2019 Mazda3 AWD gets 30 mpg with the same route.

Those are crappy MPGs. I cant say ive gotten less than 26mpg combined with my foot into the pedal the whole time. Irony? This was about a 2 mile drive lol

@TalonTsi90 there is no way you can evaluate fuel economy from a two mile drive.

I've also got a 18' Mazda 3 Touring 2.5L and I'm averaging 29-31 w/ interstate and some city driving, I drive 50 miles round trip everyday to work and it's getting what is advertised from Mazda. Not sure why your's is that low. A lot of deciding factors, traffic, tire pressures correct(?) gas quality, dirty air filter, etc. etc. Might want to do a thorough look over of everything and go from there.

Here in North America fuel quality is typically not an issue, and even if it is once in a while, there is no way it would be consistently bad. As for a dirty air filter, that cannot under any circumstances cause poor fuel economy on a modern fuel injected engine.
