Hello all,

Just became the proud owner of a Mazda3 i Touring sedan last Sunday, and I am very pleased so far. I just love the way the car drives, and the high quality feel of the interior, and the beautiful shape of the exterior.

But I just noticed today, that the rear license plate light appears to be missing some sort of protective lens or cover that would be attached to the rear bumper. There is an open slot on the rear bumper just over the license plate, and a functional license lamp, but on either side of the slot is a slightly recessed hole that appears should be accepting either a screw or some sort of post for either a protective lens over the light or some other sort of cover.

Not having many examples of Mazda3 sedans around, can anyone tell me if indeed there should be some sort of cover around or over the license plate lamp? Might the lack of such a fitting indicate that the bumper had been replaced at some point?

It looks like it is supposed to have a lens on it from the on line Mazda parts place I looked atJose.

My '08 3 s doesn't have one either, came brand new like that.

 

Thanks for the replies. I found a couple of mazda3 sedans at work (must've looked strange, me peering at the underside of the rear bumpers in the parking lot). They both had the same open slot in the bumper as mine.

I looked on my 09 i sport earlier while cleaning it, I expected to see a hole but mine has a lens over the light

Was looking at my MS3 the other night and I have a cover that protects the bulbs as well. Mabe they forgot to put them on at the factory...

 

More like the previous owner had installed LED bulbs and took them out before selling/trading the car.
