Default A/C question, maybe it's a bug

I discovered today that the A/C and internal air circulation can be turned on irregularly.

Scenarios:
(1) air vent set to face, fan is off, temp is set to min, when fan is turned on, the A/C is on also, the air circulation turns to internal (indicator lit)
(2) air vent set to face, or somewhere in between face and feet, fan on, A/C off, air circulation is external, temp setting is higher than min, when turn the temp to min, the A/C is on.

I wonder if this has to do with the hack on the info display. On the 3i touring model, the info display can be turned on though not advertised (it's for the GT model with climate control).
Anybody know how to trun the hacked info display off, I'd like to verify this.

thanks.

No need to panic. My m3 does exactly the same thing. It has nothing to do with the info display (aka the hacked turn-on of the trip computer).

The issue is, if you crank the temp all the way counter clockwise to absolute coldest temp -the AC turns on, andthe ventilationswitches to recirc mode. The car is thinking thatif you crank it all way,you want to be cooled down.

So ... don't turn it all the way.As long as youkeep it a smidgen above coldest (about 1/8 of an inch ... not more than 1/4 of an inch)your AC will NOT turn on automatically, and the ventilation mode will not switch to recirc.

Yourair will come through unheated, and uncooled ... which is what you want.

In mine, it has to do with where the selector switch is. Anythingfrom and past the twelve-o-clock position will turn on the a/c compressor.
It can be annoying, but if you want warmer air simply turn the temp control up.I find it best between the eleven & twelve-o-clock position in most circumstances.
The defrost/defrost-footwellsetting will automatically switch the system from outside air to recirculate.

Yea thats a Ford idea. They have their cars running the a/c compressor alot for no good reason. I think they just have alot of stock in oil companies.A simple a/c on/off button that actually works would be the common sense thing to do. They either have alterior motives or assume everyone is too stupid to hit an a/c button.

Depends what you mean when you say, "I turn it off."

As is specified in the manual, if you have the mode set to Defrost, or Full Feet, or anything in between, the AC is on automatically.

Thanks for your notes......I figured it might be a feature during the weekend, and nice to see everyone is confirming this. When temp is set to minimum (blue mark), it turns the A/C on and air to recirculation. The A/C remains on (even when the temp. dial is switched to hotter positions, or the fan dial off), the A/C has to be manually turned off to remain off.

Another thing about the A/C is that, (I have it in another post), it is forced on (on indicator light) when the mode dial is at or past 12 o'clock (clockwise). Frankly, I dislike this feature.
again, thanks to all.

It is true itthe AC isforced on in many modes ... but I havenever driven a car built in 2000 or later which does not automatically turn the AC on in many situations. The specifics may vary a tad maker to maker, but it is standard. No matter what 21st century car you might choose to buy, that's the way it is.
