Changing a 2010 Mazda3 from automatic to manual! Help!
Hey,
Long story short I was unable to get a Mazda3 Speed. /: HOWEVER, I do plan on making mine manual and adding a turbo. What exactly will I need to do this and how long will the process take? I know it will be expensive, so if prices are brought up, maybe give me an idea of the cost of things? I've done some research but it's always nice to get a second opinion.
Thanks! (:

My first reaction was that if you have to ask, you shouldn't be doing this. But.
If you're even half decent with basic tools and don't break all the things you try to fix usually, why not? Most of the time you'll probably spend looking for the parts, then cursing and crying and drinking beer alone in the garage. Someone doing this full time would probably manage in a week or so. Looking forward to see how this turns out.

way too much stuff!
not worth the effort at all!
Turbo and tranny flip! $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
New computer will more than likely be needed. A separate computer runs the automatic tranny. Don't know how dependant the main computer relies on this and if you change tranny you may have issues.
Your main computer will have to be re-programmed for the turbo.
Sounds like to me a new computer as well as if you do get a turbo you will only be able to do low boost (5 psi) because your stock engine can't handle big boost.
Buy a used Mazda speed.

I am agreeing with everyone else's assessment of the situation, even tanprotege (who's obviously being funny.)
With a modern, 'everything-computer-controlled-car,' you're best bet is to buy it that way. The rest will just be one headache after another, MazdaGirl.... But I do feel your pain. With time and money you could accomplish whatever you wanted, but it simply wouldn't be worth it in the end.
I wouldn't tolerate an auto for too very long myself. I've been a stick driver for some 40 yrs, and don't plan changing that now, though there have been a few times..... like, driving in Boston and NYC!!!!
Oh, and Smau, she means she was unable to acquire a Mazdaspeed3, not a Mazda3 speed.
