Changing Mazda iPod Adapter to Aux input on 2007Mazda3?
#11
Okay, the plot thickens.
The spot in your center console which says "AUX IN" is supposed to be a female 3.5mm audio jack. This was standard in all '07+ Mz3's.
Mazda does in fact have an OEM ipod module, and while it's not a factory option, it is a dealer option which may have been installed prior to the car being sold. If you're not the original owner it could also have been installed by the previous owner. One thing to check is on some if not all of the OEM ipod modules you could connect specific wires to the CAN BUS system and get your ipod info displayed on the LCD. That said it's still not as good as an interface as you'd find on most aftermarket set ups..... even cheap ones.
What it looks like happened here is someone removed the ACI plug, removed the 3.5mm input from the faceplate, removed the wires from one end or the other and fished them through the little hole. This doesn't look like something a dealer would do because: A) it would be a bunch of extra work, and B) the dealer install instructions have the ipod cable go into the glove compartment and a sticker is placed on the ACI port to mark that it's disabled.
As to your pictures... The round black/red plug is your antenna and it's in there really firmly. The plug next to it is what's going to the ipod adapter. The larger plug towards the other side is the main wiring harness.
