Default Convince Me

I'm thinking of buying a 2005 Mazda3s (23,000 miles). It's between that and a 2005 Volvo S40 (I know, I know...a Volvo...but it's got a lot of extras that spoil you if you have my kind of commute). Anyhow- I'd be driving it about 60 miles a day. I'm a law student- no kids, just a husband (he drives a Nissan 350Z track) and a dog (we have our Toyota Camry beater that we take him around in). I'm leaning towards the Mazda because it's sportierbut figured I'd get your perspective on it.
Have a good one and depending on the outcome I'm sure you'll see more of me on here!

I'm not sure what the Volvo offers in comfort or convienience features that the '3 s' doesn't except perhaps heated seats or such. Other than that they're both slower than maple syrup in January although the 3 is a more precise handler and has better ergonomics. The Volvo looks better (a purely subjective judgement). If one of your choices (I assume the Volvo is used too) has an automatic transmissionbuy the other. An automatic in either of these cars makes driving an excercise in frustration (this goes for any non-turbo four with only a few exceptions).

Bull manure? I haven't looked at a lot of previous posts on here so I'm not exactly sure what that was in reference to but I assure you I just posted this because I'm leaning towards the 3 and thought perhaps 3 owners could tell me what they really liked about the car and why it's a good choice!
As far as my username goesI couldn't really think of anything at the time. I don't really see how a username matters a whole lot though.
Thanks.

There have been some phantom posters on here lately (1 post with links to advertising.) Don't take it personal.

Both are nice cars, the Volvo 40 series and Mazda3 share many of the same chassis components. The Mazda3 has a younger feel while the Volvo a bit more mature. I think the Mazda would be more fun to drive/sporty, but the Volvo would probably make a better daily driver/comfortable ride (a little larger).

With the dog, I'd get the hatchback to keep him off of the seats.

If your looking for a "sportier" car, I recommend the MazdaSpeed3. IMO

Well Congrats to you!! And welcome to the family.
Now of course we need pictures... of the car!!!
And to think I finally had some time and was just going to take my previous answer further than yesterday. No need now.
For the record zoomme, Urban was just reacting to araft of new member that all of a sudden want to know about small, "fuel efficient"cars and have answered a number of those posts lately. Plus a public forum is of course a place where anyone can come on and ask any questions, including the census takers posing as a real member. I am pretty sure I can speak for him and say that he thought you might be one of those, not seriously interested in becoming an owner, just trying to figure out who would.
Does that about cover it, UberMan?
Anyway, as I'd said before, congrats and welcome!!
And post those pics soon!! We want to see your new ride.
