Double clutching?
one of my friends was sitting in my car and he saw me go from fifth to 3rd and was like your double clutching...is that double clutching? All i did was just rev the engine in the middle while shifting to 3rd so you dont get a big *** jerk and break your neck.

double clutching is when you let out the clutch for a second between gears. it is meant to manually sync the transmission between gears so that you don't grind. you don't need to do that in your car since the tranny is much more sophisticated than those who require double clutching.

well why would i need to put the clutch out again why not push it in once rev match it to the 3rd gear and just drop it in 3rd. Im reading more on this....pretty interesting. A lot of people are mentioning the fast and furious movie and what not.

Double-clutching was a method ofmatching the tranny input shaft speed to engine speedin older vehicles, mostly big trucks, that had very heavy gears andsyncros, or no sychros at all. It's been said to be an absolute necessity for a tranny w/o syncros (crash-box.)
When downshifting, such as you did, you still have to blip the throttle when in neutral/clutch engaged though, a step missed by your example Remi. (Sorry.)
"5th gear -> clutch in -> neutral -> clutch out -> 'blip' -> clutch in -> third gear."

To continue on virgin's answer you don't need to double clutch in the 3 as the syncros make it un-needed. You see it mostly in large trucks or buses. Man the bus ride from Guatamala City to Quetzaltenango (where we spent last July) was horrible. Every time the driver went to shift he just single clutched and held the stick against the gears until it went in...... usually after we lost about 30 kph going through the mountains. I really wanted to explain to him what to do but I don't really enough Spanish to do that.

That's funny. A bus driver that doesn't know how, or the needto double-clutch. I hope that at least he knew how long and wide the bus was so that he wasn't running overother cars and people?
Maybe he was a fill-in for the REAL bus driver???
