Engine immobilizer in action

immobiliser
Hi Its been a while
we have had a number (6) 3s in at work and there seem to be a couple of issues with the start and run side of the car.
1. The immobiliser does not read the chip
dont put other keys with transponders on the same key ring so unlike
customer with A BM, Ascooter And A Mazda all those keys have
transponders this will confuse the immobiliser.
2. The main harness.
The immobiliser will NOT immobilise the vehicle whilst in motion as this
would not be welcome 70 mph and you loose power down to the chip
although loss of power will cause the immobiliser lamp to flash this
is normally the main harness where the soldered joints have arced so
poor contact or the spade terminals have been arcing same problem.
3. Key barrel
inside of the key barrel there is a mechanical switch which makes the
rod at the rear of the barrel turn in the electrical connector.
lots of start stops will normally wear the key ( the softer material )
but this will also wear the electrical connector and is not helped by
large bunches of keys hanging on the key whilst in the ignition as the
key will not be inserted true.
so check if the car cuts out whilst runing giggle the key in the slot or the harness if it cuts out most auto electricans can do a fix to the worn or broken connector.
try to avoid too much metal around the key barrel this will mess with the
reader for the immobiliser.
hope this helps

My 2007 Mazda 3 GT 2.3 (Manual Tranny) died on me while driving. Wouldn't start and had the security indicator light flashing. Had to get it towed to dealership.
Next morning, dealer started it fine, put it up on the hoist to do an oil change, but it wouldn't start when they wanted to get it out of the shop. They had the same problem I did.
Now the tech has been looking at it for over 9 hours and they don't know what to do. They said they could try replacing the wiring harness under the dashboard ($1270!!!) but that might not be the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do with this car? My warranty is done.

Could be the receiver for the key has loose connection or Antena needs positioned right or the warmth from their hand is warming it up. Check this out yourself. If you elect to go with wire harness, buy it & do it yourself. I would. Can't be that hard. But first check out the key receiver first!
