Default engine light

My engine lightrecently turned on. I don't know if it's my cold air intake but I had put 10000 miles on it with my cold air intake with no problems. I checked my engine oil and it was less than half of the measuring part of the dip stick. The engine light turns off after I drive put 30 miles. Also, I bought my car in Florida, now living in Maryland. Is the engine light on because of the mass flow, temperature, or the low oil.

The SEI can be any one of 100 things. The only way to know for sure, is to take it to someone with a code reader

If you go to autozone they will read your codes for free. or you can pick up a generic OBD scan tool for about $100

My engine died today. Will I lose my warranty because of the cold air intake?

Well what do you mean it died? The intake will only cause something to be not covered if it is shown that your afterm, arktet part and/or the conditions created are too be the cause.

If you drive through a big puddle with the throttle open then a CAI can suck water into the engine and hydrolock it. Water isn't as compressible as air, so when the piston compresses it ends up warping the cylinder.

Car fixed. Found out the intake manifold needs to be replaced.Basically the guy told me that if the part is not made well, the butterfly value will get stuck causing the engine to choke and diefrom insufficient air. I got lucky that my warranty still covers for it even with my cold air intake.

I ran over puddles before, it's very hard to get the m3 to hydrolock with the cold air because it has a large front panel under the engine.
