Some sulphur odor from exhaust not abnormal but if you feel it is excessive take to dealer and have them make sure the fuel trims are not too far into the rich side. There are a couple of things have run across so far that are make fuel trims abnormaly rich above 10-15%. Purge valve for evap system sticking open intermittently that draws fuel vapors from charcoal canister into the engine when it should not. This is quite common. The other more rare is a mass air flow sensor fault whereas the sensor is sending a signal to the PCM that more air is coming in to the engine then really is and PCM dumps in more fuel to compensate. Dealer will not usually respond to complaints of sulphur smell as it is considered normal but are more likely to investigate a little closer with a intermittent rough idle complaint which should point them into the same areas.
I agree. Excessive unburned fuel will cause the cats to give off a sulfur smell.

I have a 2006 mazda 3 and there is a smell when the heater is on that the dealer claims is the clutch. There is only 12 500 miles on the car and the dealer will not garantee me that mazda will cover the component. Iam an experienced manual car driver and don't believe the burnt clutch was my doing. The smell comes every 3 or 4 days and remains for only a few seconds, but it is still unnerving. I don't only smell it when I change gears, but sometimes when I have been in 5th for a while on the highway. Also, I experience a huge lag in 1st gear when Iaccelerate from rest.

Yes! Mice! After reading through the posts i see I cannotgive my first impression as a an original opinion. So to second Object's word, check the car for any animals or other organic objects that could be....smelling. I assume it's possible for a inanimant object to be heated and smell but i'm sure you'd smell it more often, so check for Jerry under the hood and for godness sakes remove last weeks sheetz run from under the seat! HaHaHa

Typically, a sulphur or rotten egg type of smell is caused by a Catalytic converter giving up the ghost (i.e. going bad). If so, it will be covered under the factory emmision warranty.
