The hatch and sedans share almost no body parts between them. I believe the doors (F&R) are the only things that will interchange.

Actually Rich, even the doors are different, look out the contour lines from the hood and to the hatch compared to the Sedan

My friend knew somebody who had it, it was the only one he had, so I have no idea how or where he got it from, I doubt he does either

OK, so only the front doors interchange.
Open mouthed grills are available for both body styles from many sources, even from Mazda (Mazdaspeed) itself, but will not interchange from one to the other. I use to know a guy that had the MS open mouth on his Tit Gray HB and even though it fit well frankly I wasn't that crazy about it.
Some things work visually better on one body style than they do on the other...
i.e. An unpainted CF hood looks so much better on a sedan than a HB because of the body lines, imo... unless you have a black HB. Then they look good. But I would never do one on my white hatch unless it was strategically painted around the grill.
