Si. That is correct. The fan speed matters not. The compressor will cycle based onwhere the temperature dial is set. That is what determines how much power/mileage the A/C robs from the engine.

Forbidden, you must enjoy driving your 3 like I do. However, when you get out on the highway ata constant speed - I'll guess you'll get 34+ mpg.

Thanks, Gurl - I can really feel a big difference in the reduction of solar radiation with the tint.

Is it possible thata higher fan speed will actually cool things faster causing the compressor to be on less?

With the auto system, yes. But the standard system does not depend on the inside ambient and does not read it (no cabin temp sensor.)

In my 2004 3s 5door w/ 2.3l and auto, I have found that, on the highway, cruise setat 75, I am getting 29.7 - 29.9; in town, I get 23.5.

I've never driven a car that I didn't get better mpg in when I didn't use cruise. I drove one car that a few years back that it made a huge difference and would actually let us go enough farther to avoid a final gas stop in a 500 mile trip.
