RE: help lowering hatchback
I've got Z speed rated (i.e. summer) tires - Toyo Proxes FZ4's in a 225/45ZR17. I've got ~36,000 miles on the rear tires and I'll probably replace them in the next couple of months. The tread pattern seems to do just fine in the snow though. I've destroyed a couple of tires this summer on potholes.
I've got snow specific tires on my wife's Mazda6, I highly recommend dedicated snow tires if you do a lot of snow driving. The Dunlop Wintersport M3's are incredible. They sell out fast at the beginning of snow season, so if you want them, get them asap. Ours are the 205/50R17 and they work terrific.
Best bet is to go to www.tirerack.com and get a package deal with winter rims (or use your stock rims as the winter rims and get some cool ones for summer)
Without really cornering hard (like on a racetrack) it's hard to tell the difference with and without the camber links.
Oh yeah...make sure to get an alignment both front and rear (and get the printout from them) after you lower your car. Changing the ride height requires some adjustments in the front/rear suspension settings that you can't do on your own.

RE: help lowering hatchback
It will most likely void the ride/handling portion of your warranty. (My dealer noticed them right away.)
However, if you use all Mazdaspeed parts and have the parts installed at a Mazda dealership, I believe your warranty will remain intact.

Correct...
i didn't worry about the warranty because I use the factory warranty up in 2 years anyway. I figured the chance of something happening in that timeframe was fairly slim (so far I've been right, I clicked over 38,000 miles today.)

RE: help lowering hatchback
Your call....I lowered mine with ~7,000 miles on the clock. I think it makes a dramatic difference in how the car looks (my wife disagrees, she says she didn't see any difference at all)
It basically closed up the gap between the top of the tire and the bottom of the wheelwell by ~1.2", so now there is a consisten gap all the way around the tire rather than it getting wider at the top.
