Remember those plastic things your H7's were attached to? Well, they are w/o a doubt one of the dumbest things ever invented by an engineer and serve no purpose other than to take up space between the retaining clip, and the bulb mounting flange. That's what you need the adapter for.
Sure, they can be made from pieces of aluminum you have hanging around the shop, or even a piece of PVC, but why bother. And besides, most would not be creative enough to think of such things, or have the necessary junk on hand to do it with.

There wasnet anything like that on mine, there was just a bulb, the retaining clip that holds the bulb in place, a boot and then a connector, maybe a pic would remind me

OOOOOOOOO yea that thing, nope i still didnt have a problem with it, dont know what you guys are talking about, even when i replaced a burned out halogen bulb it didnt cause any problems

Yes, but you need a (or the) spacer between the bulb and clip or the bulb, any bulb will just flop around in there.
I don't know how you could have installed a conversion kit w/o one.
This is the exact setup I have (found on iMazda.com):





Cheezy looking, but they work.

is yours the ds2 bulbs or h7 hid's? I dont know if that makes a diff but i have the h7 hid's, i dont know how to explain it other than my bulbs dont look like the one in the top of the first pic, they look like the second one, if it wasent a pita id just snap some pics of my version, again nothing was needed not even wire lengthening
