I created some redneck self jack stands, took 2x9's, sawed them in half (45 degree angle), duct taped together the lumber ... voila!

It would be almost IMPOSSIBLE to do a change without stands, or a pit- to even slide under the car to get at the drain plug without the car being raised, seems simply not do-able..

I don't see how the filter can be removed without oil being spilled. Note to DIYers - wear a shirt you can toss. And, allow time to clean (rinse) dirty oil off the lower shield after the change.

When the board has tech issues, and you have to breakwhat you want to postinto small bits, it is less coherent than ideal. Of course, it is about me doing my "virgin" self oil change (first time I've done it on the M3).

I jack up the right side, jackstand under the front suspension and drop the plastic engine protector while the oil is draining,

I was able to do it without dropping the shield (protector), but my engine has a more simple spin filter - for which I am grateful.
