Default Lots of brake dust!!!

Hi everyone,

I just purchased a 2008 Mazda 3 close to a month ago and am just now noticing how much brake dust is on my wheels and on the car itself. It is seemingly on all four sides, not just the back or the front. I washed the car on a Friday, and by Sunday it was black all over again! Is this something I'm just going to have to deal with or is there something I (or the dealership) can do about it? Thanks!

Since your vehicle is an '08, I assume you bought it new, if I was you, I'd call the dealer for their advice.

I have some brake dust accumulation, I think most of us do.It's natural for it to be an all four wheels. Mine isnot that bad though, so if you truly have a lot in just a few days, maybe there is an issue that needs to be addressed.

There are brake dust shields available, you can google to locate, I know nothing about them.

I get a bit mainly on the front rims. (08 M3s, 2.3) But not bad enough it's covering the car. I also bought it new, but don't have a problem as bad as yours sounds. I'd have it checked.

try washing the wheels and rinsing with a special chemical sold in stores.......to prevent brake dust....

Something I failed to mention was also that new brake pads tend to create a lot of brake dust. I also just purchased a new mazda 3 and it took about 1 month to brake the pads in. Like I posted previously, go ahead and buy a wheel cleaner for removing brake pads dust and you will noticed a diference. I did...and like it.... good luck!!!

Lots of brake dust could be an indication the pads are wearing quickly -its possiblethe brakes need adjustment.

How has your gas mileage been? If it has sucked, maybe the brakes are constantly on a little, or not releasing quickly.

i agree with urbanman, sounds like a brake problem. my mazda 3 2004 rear brakes would bust the rims but my 2008 is very light on all four wheels. You should have the dealer check it out. ceramic pads are also a good idea because the save the rotors and do not produce so much dust. good luck.
