Luminics bulbs
Has any used the Luminics Bulbs 55W? If so did you order the extra wire harness? I just got mine installed and they get damn HOT. I just ordered the harness just to make sure i dont fry anything. The box says 55w but right under that it say 130w so I'm not sure if these are just too hot.

RE: Luminics bulbs
That 55W you see is the draw, and the 130W is the light output. The general concensus is that no halogen bulb will put out anymore light than it draws. Like I said in a previous thread, I have the Luminics 65 watt high beams and it says 130 watt output, but it doesn't put out anymore light than 65 watts. Mine don't get any hotter than a regular stock bulb. The harness is mainly for the higher wattage bulbs, such as the bulbs that draw more watts than the stock wiring will support, so that you don't fry your wiring. So basicly, if you see a bulb that says it puts out anymore light than it draws, chock it up as glorification for the manufacturer to sell more of them.

RE: Luminics bulbs
Well, 65x2=130?? Sounds like a bunch of advertisinghooey to me though.
Any halogen that only draws X amount of power, 55w in this case but is said to be capable of producing more lumen's than an OE of the same rating is over driving the tungsten/halogen element. In short, they are using a thinner piece of tungsten wire as the base for the filament. The bulb will burn out much sooner and is more susceptible to vibration damage as well.
Good explanation, Scott!!Good job!!You really do have an eye for the details.

The fog lens just gets to hot to touch and I was worried the it would melt the plastic. I order the wire harness just for safety measure but I will keep you posted if it fry's its self with time. Thanks guys for all the info. This is why I this forum is the BEST. Because of great input from guys like you.

Yes, thanks for the compliment, Juan. I"d say that we are allafriendly bunch of gear heads, in general and that we try to help when we can.
Under the circumstances you describe then, may I suggest that you are very cautious to turn the fogs off when you will be sitting for a long time... such as when stuck in one of those famous California traffic jams?
