Wondering if anyone is having issues finding good riding tires that are good on the performance and comfort side without blowing the bank. Has Goodyear RS-A 's and some Falken's which haven't lasted very long. I'm thinking about either Kumho Escata ASX or Michelin Pilot Sport AS Plus which are about $100.00 more than the Kumho tires.

Just wondering if anyone had any feedback or insight into better tires? or Information about your opinion on the tires listed above.

 

I bought the Sumitomo HTR ZIII about 10,000mi ago and I love them. Paid $92 a piece for em. Handle well, and quiet, alot more than the Badyears.

Only problem is they are summer only.

 

If you look back at some of the older threads there are several discussions on tires for the 3. On my 2007, the Goodyears wore out at 18K. I put on the Kumho Ecsta ASX you mentioned and was very happy. I did not have the car a long time after the switch, however they rode and handled well and the car drove much better than with the Goodyears. I believe they had a 30K treadwear warranty. If you shop around you should be able to find them for about $110 each or better (before all the fees). I think they would be a good choice if you are budget conscious, hard to beat Michelin but you have to look at cost vs. how long you plan to keep the car.

My 2010 came with Yokohama Avid S34. I only have 600 miles on the car so it is hard to evaluate yet. They seem to be ok but it seems like they have a bit more road noise than I would like. There have been favorable comments in the other threads about various Yokohama's.

 

I have over 20,000 miles on my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires on my Mazda3, and they still look new.

 

I had the Goodyear Eagle RS-A's on for 27,000 and the Falkens are in need of a change. So i hope to get 20,000 out of those.

 

Yikes! You got 27,000 miles out of a set of Eagle RS-As? I'm thinking that's some kind of record, in fact, I don't think I've ever heard of anybody even getting 20,000 miles. Kudos to you.

FWIW, based upon the wear rates of my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires, I'm thinking that I'll get an easy forty to fifty thousand miles out of them.

 

Yes 27K IS a record for the Badyears. They should be contacting you shortly to do a testimonial on the long life of their tires....... I'll bet at 27K they could pass for racing slicks............???

 

Goodyear RS-A's=19,000
Sumitomo HTR ZIII=13,000m so far and going strong. Theyre rated for 45k so we'll see.

 

23,000 on my Goodyears, now I have Fierce 225/40-18's on it, 14000 miles and they still look to be about 75% left

After reading many-many reports of crappy mileage, tire noise, and poor winter traction, I yanked my RSAs after only 714 miles and sold them for a little less than half of what the new Michelin Pilot Sport A/Ss cost. Given that the Michelin's aren't even remotely half gone at the 20,000 mile mark, it seems like they were a pretty good investment.
