I've read up that AdBlue generally works in addition to the DPF. I was looking up information on 2010 Hino commercial trucks (a coworker (JR) was getting one at the time). It mentioned that starting 2010 the trucks were being manufactured with AdBlue reservoirs if optioned for one. Apparently it gets used after the exhaust has been cleaned up by the DPF to help clean up some emissions that the DPF doesn't take care of.

Also, I think the US and Europe started using DPF's around the same time (2007 was when the US made it mandatory and required posting the 15ppm stickers at pumps, and I believe 2007 is also when Euro Stage IV requirements were put in place.
