Default Mazda 3 question - fuel pump? please help

I have a 2004 2.3 mazda3. I am having an issue with my car. Intitially it started with my car "shaking" when it was idle. Now.. everytime i pimp gas the car chokes initially and then i have to pump the accelarator to avoid it shutting off. It does not matter whether my car is close to empty or half full.

I think it is my fuel pump but can someone help me put before i take it to the dealer?

Thanks.

Did you buy the car new and has it always shaken when started?
If you bought it used, someone may have replaced the rear engine mount the a polypropylene/AWR mount which does create more vibration.
As far as the gas "pimping" (sorry.couldn't resist) is the gas cap loose or it's seal compromised?
Also I have heard of ppl having problems when filling the tank when the car running or theeven the key in the ignition. I have not experienced this personally, just read that others have had these complaints.

I can´t speak for the symptoms but I do know that fuel pumps were one of the things that crapped out on a bunch of ´04 models. A local friend had hers replaced 3 times in her first 50k miles.

Wasn't thatthe 2.0, 3i's sedan's though? Those are the only ones I remember ppl complaining about a stalling problem.

Well, I will end up taking it to the dealership. But if someone can help me out so that I can not go in to blind.

Now when the car idle the rpm drops to about 500 and it feels like its going to shut down but does not.

Any help?

Hey all,

I wanted to see if anyone continued to have this same issue. Here are the symptoms. When i pump gas my car will not start on the first ignition turn. It just chokes. Then after I turn the ignition again it will turn on. I have a 2004 Mazda 3 2.3sedan.

Any advice?

Most likely the purge valve.

Rough idle sounds like a clogged injectors. Do you run injector cleaners?

But, could be the pump too.

Does this car have a pcv valve.
