mazda speed 3
everyone on these sites are saying it is around 250hp with 280lbf torque. i went to the dealer today wondering if they were going to have any in this fall but they said not till winter. i was looking at the speed 6 at the time and he said it will have more hp then it. he said around 300hp, so i guess this car will be good competition for the wrx sti

RE: mazda speed 3
The Speed6 is already available and it has 276hp. The dealer should know that if he's worth anything.
The Speed3 won't have more power than the Speed6 (I guarantee it.), and like I said, it's only Front wheel drive (not AWD like the WRX Sti) although it does come equipped with a limited slip diff, so it should launch pretty well.
0-60 on the Speed6 (times I've seen) have been mid 5 sec, the Speed3 will be right around there as well as it's a lighter car that the 6, with only a little less hp.

RE: mazda speed 3
I kind of don't see either as competition with the WRX/ EVO. I mean I own a speed six and it is pretty much in the speed and performance range of a 5 series or an E class or something, just with out the finish, so what is that like an Accord or something. The 6 is definitely not the rally cross type car that the Subaru or the Mitsubishi are. And neither is the 3 really. I mean a 3 with awd would be one thing if it had 250 hp. But just 250 or even 300 (which i doubt is realistic with out major modding) I see it more as a civic si or an acura kind of thing.
That WRX class is not a big market. Test drive a speed6 and a WRX, the size and weight and weight to power and the ride are two different things. Really I think the speed 6 has not got much place in the market and will not last long. I mean really the only cars it is like in size, power, and AWD are the BMW 5 the Audi A6 and the Mercedes E class. And the only cars it is like in size and finishing are the Avalon and the Accord. None of the AWD cars are as basic (non luxury) as the speed 6 and the cars that it is really competing with aren't racers and awd. So it might as well just be a 6.
But this speed 3 has a bigger market with the VW, Audi A4, Civic, Dodge Neon, kind of the import racer small car none of them well finished (non luxury) market. Most of those cars are not AWD though. The big selling AWD are the A4, WRX, and EVO. So do they make two speed 3's and hit the light weight market and the AWD market with it?

I pretty sure they were thinking that they didn't want the Speed3 to outperform the Speed6.
Also the competition for the Speed3 is more along the lines of the SRT-4 and the Cobalt SS rather than the Evo or WRX
