Mazda3 fob

Mazda3 fob
I've got a 2013 Mazda3. The fob has been draining battery for awhile, and I've had to replace the battery every 6 months.
Last time I replaced the battery, it started pressing the lock key over and over, and the car started honking, as it does when it's locked with the fob.
I took the battery out to stop it.
Looked to get a new fob, and it's about $200.
Any way to fix the possible short in the fob to fix the current fob rather than have a new one ordered and pay $200+ for a new key and fob?
Thanks,
David

You probably need to disassemble the fob's whole case, to get access to the front panel/frame and dust-off + alchool-clean the mechanical contacts underneath each button.
But first, without the battery inserted, try pressing and releasing each button multiple times, and attempt to get a feel that it's engaging, and respectively releasing, an electrical contact i.e. making a clear clicking sound. The idea is to exclude the possibility of the electrical short being of mechanical or rusting cause.
