They can do it at the dealership, though if you have two keys you can do it for free.
Yes, it actually is that easy.
Now to program the transponder, I have the Focus manual page in hand, here is the basic how-to.
Items needed:
1. 2 pre-programmed transponder keys.
2. 1 new transponder key
The timing is critical to this procedure, please read through the entire procedure before attempting.
Procedure:
1. Insert one of the pre-programmed transponder keys and turn the ignition to "on", leave on for at least one second (I wait until the red key symbol in the instrument cluster extiinguishes), remove the key from the ignition.
2. Within 5 seconds insert the second pre-programmed key and urn the ignition to "on" for at least one second but no more than 5 seconds (use the key symbol for this as well) then remove the second key.
3. within 10 seconds insert the new key in the ignition and turn the ignition to "on", if you are successful the red key symbol will illuminate then extinguish after about a second.
If you are not successful the red key symbol will flash repeatedly to indicate that you have inserted an invalid key. Remove the key, wait a minute and try it again, it took me a few times to get it perfect and I had done it before.

I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this, however, given the almost universal agreement that the Goodyear RS-A tires that come on a lot of Mazda3s are, ummm, rather poor in the wet and snow, I started nosing around for some new skins for my new ride. Over at TireRack.com they are having a Closeout Sale on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires. Apparently Michelin has upgraded this particular tire and is now calling the new model the Pilot Sport A/S Plus, and with the new tire comes a new price, $175 for the 205/50 R17 size. The good news here is that TireRack has a limited number of the well regarded older version, and they have been marked down from $165 to $120, while supplies last. I ordered a set of four last night.

If you're in snow a ton, I LOVE the snow tires I picked up.....HUGE difference in traction/confidence in the snow. (Dunlop wintersports mounted on Mazda6 wheels)

First of all, I"m a bit confused: Are you male or female. After all, Dale is one of those nondescript, androgynous names that could be either. I believe you are a guy, but.....
If you are a guy, you are a man after my own heart.(If your a woman... want to get married??Whoops!! Too late.) I hate the "Y", sometimes called snowflakerims too... well, maybe hate is too strong a word, but I'm not crazy about them either. The 5-spoke "04-"06 rims arepreferable imo.
And after my experiences w/both the RS-A's, 2 other sets of Good Yearsand Good Year Customer Service (Customer Service, my ***!!,)I won't be giving them ANY of my hard earned bucks for a long, LONG time, if I can help it.
I was so pissed off that I told one of their reps to get my F***in' car off his lift and that he better hope he never met me in a dark alley at night... and I"m not usually the type to threaten people.
The Enkies are very nice rims and if you can get them in a +48-+50mm offset, no doubt a good choice!!
I just checked (above) and it seems that 17"x7"x +50mm is the choice ($425/set/4)... and 225/45's will fit nicely on them too.
225/45's are the perfect plus zero size also.

When I waswith that outfit that we affectionately calledUncle Sam's Misguided Children, my DI (who only did three tours in Vietnam), used to call me Boatperson as he didn't want to be sexist. He was a very funny guy, errr, that is,when he wasn't punching my lights out. [8D] Anyway, I'm a guy, I have a wife, a son, and a daughter, and you are quite correct, "Dale" is a female name meaning "Pleasant Valley" (as in "Over hill, over dale").
Regarding the older wheels, yup, I agree, Mazda took a big step backwards with the Y/Snowflake wheels. Ugh!
Regarding the Enkeis, I am just too old to bling the snot out of my cars, however, as an engineer, I am more than a bit of aslave to the whole "Form follows function" thing. So, with that in mind, I was thinking about buying a set of the Enkei SC05s (I would prefer 17x7.5, however, I cannot find them anywhere,so I supposethe 17x7.0 size with a +50mm offset will have to do). That said, where are you finding them for $425 for a set of four?The best price I've come up with is closer to $200 per.

. as for you dale, congrats on the new ride, get some ballin rims. i think like 20 inch spinners... or 15 inch spinners from Canadian Tire (or i guess TARGET where your from) hubcaps for the winter months . cuz your gonna want steelies. unless your in warm weather 365 days a year then i hate you
