Default Mazda3 or Mazda6?

Hey guys Saturday I will be getting either an 07 Mazda 3 i (With power windows & locks) or an 07 Mazda6i. I can't decide which one to get. I am going to be picking up the car from Hertz used car sales, and they have about 6 mazda 6's and 2 mazda 3s. I am only 16 years old and I'm a boy.

I really like how the mazda3 has a built in aux port. FOr the mazda6 I think it looks awkward without a spoiler...anyone share this belief?

Which car would you recommend, and why?

Thanks!

Edit: Reliability is a concern too!

I drove both and got the 3 but that is me.
I would just drive one of each and then it would be up to the coler and which car you liked better.

Simply put, get the 3.
By your own admission you are 16 and this is your first car, so chances are transporting a family around is not much of a concern right now... at least I hope it isn't?
The 3 is certainly a little sportier and generally targeted for the younger crowd. (No smart-assed old man comments directed toward Ken or me please.)
The 6 is a very nice overall car too. I liked the two I have driven though I would make a few changes if they had been mine. It's goals are a bit different of course and it's more upscale w/a softer more mature feel and an initial cost to match.
Since they were both rental cars they will be automatics, but the 3 with it's peppy 2.0L will afford better mileage and a sportier drive than the 6 w/the 2.3L and a softer, heavier ride.

Yup, you are getting good advice from all of us here. Get the 3.

Speaking from the old fart contingent here...

Get the 3, it's a much more enjoyable ride. That said, I wouldn't buy either of the cars you're looking at. Why? Automatic transmissions. Ewwwww. Were I in your shoes I'd be looking for a nice used Mazda3 i with a five speed tranny and an honest to god clutch pedal under the dash.

Sorry Dale. I did not mean to dis-include you in there.
As manual driver for over 35 yrs, I have to agree. At least learn how to drive stick. Then if you want an auto you'll know the basics, as well as the hows and whys of driving both.
However what I read into spirtd's post, assumed if you will, was that Mom and Dad had this all planned out and for one reason or another wanted their young son to make his first car an automatic. In other words, it's already a done deal, so I didn't go there. I kept my mouth shut for a change.

Thanks for all your advice guys.

Well I will look into a stick down the road, but for now I think the auto with manual shifting will be good. I plan on learning stick when I can buy my own car =D

No problem. Best of luck to you,
Have you gone to see and drive them yet?

IMO i would *edit* NOT buy a rental car period. I've done and seen what happens to them.

Though the Mazda may hold up to alot, i would still be weary.

Not sure how mechanically inclined you are, but if you are not, have somebody with you to inspect.
