Default New MazdaSpeed 3 - First Time with a Turbo Engine - questions?

Hello,

I'm going to trade my Nissan Sentra Spec V ‘06 for the new MazdaSpeed 3 GT ‘08 and Ihave read everywhere aboutturbo engineand the basic maintenance are

1- i should wait the car to warm up for at least 1 min and before shutting it off i should wait at least 1 min for the turbo to cool down.

2- Also, i should change the oil every 3,000 or 3,500 milles.

My questions are:

a- Any news of the MSP 3 ‘09?

b- Does the MSP 3 comes with a Turbo Timer? do i need turbo timer? how much? who can install it? is it neccesary? or i just do the timing of 1 min before and after.

c- Is it bad to drive turbo car around 75 o 80 mph for a long time - 250 mi?

d- Can i follow the maintenance book as i do in my nissan? or i must change the oil every 3,000 or 3,500 mi?

e- Any other maintenance?

Thank you in advance.

a- Any news of the MSP 3 ‘09?-None that I am aware of. 08 had a mid year refresh. When I bought my MS3, I was told that 08 would be the last year for the Speed3.

b- Does the MSP 3 comes with a Turbo Timer?-No do i need turbo timer?-Dependswho you talk to. I simply wait about 30 seconds- 1 minute to let the oil circulate to cool the turbo.how much? who can install it? is it neccesary? or i just do the timing of 1 min before and after.

c- Is it bad to drive turbo car around 75 o 80 mph for a long time - 250 mi? -Drove mine non-stop to Palm Springs (approx. 450 miles)

d- Can i follow the maintenance book as i do in my nissan? or i must change the oil every 3,000 or 3,500 mi? -Chang mine every 3,000 or so miles so far.

e- Any other maintenance? -I currently have had no issues with my car. Others may or may have not.

Hope I have helped out. The Speed3 is a fun car to drive.

Welcome (soon) to the Mazda family! You'll have a blast with this car... my car's 1-yr anniversary is at the end of this month, and it still makes me smileeveryday. I tried to upload the MS3 Maintenance Schedule here, but .pdf formatis not supported; if you give me your e-mail address, I'll mail it to you.

I'm not sure if the MS3 is slated for production in 2009. I honestly hope not... relative exclusivity is part of the fun of owning aMazdaspeed model; bringing it back for a 3rd year is simply a buzzkill. As far as I know, Mazda USAhas not released official production #'s for the 2008 model year, norhave theyconfirmed or denied that '08 is the last production year. Forum threads swear by 5,000 annual units for North America, with the last of the bunch rolling out this year, but who knows?

Like 1funride, I simply wait 30 - 60 seconds to allow theengine/turbo to cool down. It can be a drag at times, but you'll want to take care of your new baby! As far as warming up the engine prior to driving off, I rely on the engine sound, as indicated in the owner's manual. When I start the car, the idle sound starts off rough, then becomes smooth... this is alwaysless than a minute.

I think that prolonged driving at a constant speed is only something to avoid during the car's break in period. It should not be an issue afterwards... if this were so, then"cruise control" is the biggest automotive conspiracy out there.

Hope this information is helpful. Keep us updated with your purchase!

haha you'l have so much funbecause the350z and Mazdaspeed 3 have the same quartar mile time with some bolt ons you can smoke them easily lol

I have a N/A S-touring 07 Mazda 3 hatch that is fun to drive stock. soI know you'll have a blast. just take into consideration that you should buy a new alarm like a clifford for the turbo timer, makes it so much easier.

the manual for the ms3 and ms6 will tell you that the car has a system that keeps the oil flowing for about 30 seconds after the engine is stopped. this means that it sort of has a turbo timer already. it does go on to recommend that after long highway driving the car should be ran for about 30 to 45 seconds before killing the engine.

Excellent tip there, Wesley! Clearly, I had not thoroughly read my owner's manual ("for shame!")... this gives me some peace of mind during those crazy-busy moments when even 30 seconds or so can't be spared for a cool down period.

I don't own a turboed car, but for the cost of a timer (around $40.I've checked) and the added cool down time for the turbo and bearings, I'd do it.
From what I've read they are pretty easy to hook up too. They are connected to the ignition switch and just override and delaytheshut-down feature when you turnthe key off. But the steering column still locks, so there isno more chance someone will steal the car during that time than at any other.
It soundslike a good idea and cheap insurance to me.

Yes, i've been looking around andturbo timergoes from $50 to $100. i think it's nothing becuase that will help to take care of the turbo cool down. I will go for it too.

Also, i looked for the clifford alarm and after reading what they do, i will only use to star the engine before i get in the car and the timer after shutting it off. it has some many options that you can use but you have to remember all codes, ahhh no way.

When i get my MS3r, i will write my exp... for sure i will enjoy because after having my spec V (that goes fast when you need it ), most people say that the MS3 is a BLAST.

Many Thanks
