Default not good

so the cai runs good and all, but since my state has decided to become a rainforest im having some concerns, first my car is sucking up some water, not alot but enough to turn a warning light on and it causes the engine to studder. i am probley going to take it out or get that cover that supposedley helps repell the water. question: what would you do in my situation?

hey bill. did you try making a splash shield for the cone? in your CAI thread, i posted a link that warns 3 sedans of water contaminating the filter by dripping down from the headlight housing. thats most likely why you are getting some water in there. or have you been submerging the head into giant puddles?

if it was me in your situation, id most definitely attempt to rig up a splash shield for it. id maybe look into those stretchy prefilters that the_gray_mazda6 posted some information about.

good luck bill.

honestly, the hydroshield made by engine is really a MUST for protecting your intake from hydrolocking your engine. for my intake setup from Injen, it came with a splash shield in the kit so that was half of my worrying about hydrolocking gone right there.

now the problem that you are explaining, how your engine is shuddering... i would have to say that you need to put the stock intake system that came with your vehicle back in, take it to the dealer, and as them why your car is doing so (playing stupid). your car may be in for some serious trouble, especially when water is getting into your engine (that water is boiling verrrry hot when it is in your engine and is causing what i like to call water pockets that interrupt the engine cylcle process of your vehicle).

also, what kind of intake do you have? Injen... AEM.... K&N????

either way a splash shield is what you should get as soon as you get your cai, if i were in your situation...well first why is your state declaring itself as a rainforest? anyway id just get a splash shield and be done with it, if water is getting sucked in and causing your car to shudder just drive like grandma and pretend that you have a lowered car and the puddles are speed bumps

the engine light went off by itself, what would the dealership charge me for them to turn that off $50-$70?

Not sure how much it costs, usually they tell you to just drive it for 30 drive cycles (you know, start your car, drive awhile, turn it off = 1 cycle) and see if it resets - It should reset after 30.
