Default Is plastic cover for air flow to batter necessary?

Hi everyone, I have a 2008 mazda3 with 85,000 miles. First the batter cover (plastic) broke off and could not be repaired so I removed it. Now the plastic piece that allows air flow toward battery has broken from it's clips and is being held in place with Gorilla duct tape. If I were to totally remove this would that present any problems for me?
Thanks for any input.

If you drive in area's with high ambient temps then yes it could be a problem with cooking your battery.
