Actually, when I first looked at it, I thought they loadeda pic of the CX7 instead.
Can't say I'm wild about the look either, but it could be what Mazda is going for.... family recognition.

You see so many Civics for three major reasons:

1: Price - Civics are cheap to buy, and to maintain.

2: Performance - The Civic has been leading the compact class in MPG for years now...

3: Reliability - It's a Honda. That's really all that needs to be said.

...granted, I'd rather have a 3.
considering you bought a malibu. juts kidding man. but #1 buy the 3. my buddy has a civic and i think my car is better. its faster. i really dont like the look of the civic AT ALL. it looks soo retarded. esepecially when you get hte rims that used to be on the insight. plus the audio system is alot weaker then the mazda3. even without my subs it sounds awesome. lots of bass unlike the civic which is like accoustic. and the mazda3 is a nice drive. and not much noise with the engine. its quite quiet. granted im 18 and dont care. it still is quiet. people tell me you turned the engine on?! get a mazda3. and #2 if you find a good deal on the 08 go for it. blehh

Let's see you run from my 3.5L on the interstate...

And the Civics are brilliant cars, so their popularity is only natural. As far as audio goes, bass means nearly nothing to me - I'm a rock/metal guy. Aesthetics...well, I can't say I like the Civic's exterior or interior; however, in the Mazda, I felt comfortable - everything was in reach for me, and best of all, I didn't strain to fit (like I did in my Corolla).

Noise...is the 2.0L quiet? The 2.3L I test drove (albeit it was in a 6) was kind of noisy, especially on the highway...I find all I4's to be too noisy for my liking. Then again, my V6 is a quiet SOHC.

To me, the Mazda engines are a bit rough feeling and sounding.Kinda' the difference between a ChevySB w/pipes and a(302) Ford. They mayboth sound good, but there's a roughness to the Ford that's just not present in the Chevy.
I have said for a while now that it's not the most civilized modern 4-cyl. The Hondas are certainly smoother and quieter.
Put some stiffer mounts in there and you'll see just how rough it (the Mazda engine) can get.

This made me smile.

True, Honda makes some of (if not the) smoothest 4-bangers out there...but they have no torque! The new Civic Si's block puts out 197HP at some crazy RPM, but its peak torque is less than 140. I just can't respect any "sporty" coupe that is as fast off the line as my 4-door family car.

While I'm at it, the Celica is another no-torque wonder.

Why did that make you smile?
I've heard both w/open headers and the Ford does have a more uncivilized sound to it thana mouse motor does. The Ford has got it's own kind of charm, but cruder.

Talking torque,I agree. But your original comment was about noise. Hondas, especially modern ones peak way too late. Much too high in the RPM range.W/VTEC you'd think they would have more control over that aspect of the engine.
Even w/my own Civic from long ago I wished for more torque, and when frustrated w/it said that I was gonna dump a Rabbit engine in there. Once I even saida small block Chevy... and the guy I was talking to believed me!! (DUH, like that would happen.)

My dad had a 302 in his Mustang back in the day before he got a SB Nova...he said the same thing you did. One of the few good memories I have of him made me smile.

Noise...Honda...I'm waiting for Jaimie to run through the thread screaming "rice."

A SB Chevy in a Civic, eh? Why bother, when you could put a rota in there?[8D]
