Default Power steering pump

I'm new to the forum and also Mazda. My daughter just bought a 2005 Mazda3 and is having intermittant problems where the power assist stops working completely. Ive read the posts about a recall for the power steering pump but it looks like the 2005 does not apply. Is there any fixes for this problem beside a new or used pump?

Could the belt be slipping by chance? Low oil level? Does it only happen at lock? I am not sure but I thought the recall dealt with cars with the electric assist (correct me if I am wrong) and the '05s are hydraulic.

Nope, the 05 is electric also, it looks like this is just an issue that electric pumps have and is normal

Remove the front bumper and have a close look at the wires going to the steering module/pump they rub against the steel and can turn green after a while.
