yea, when i went to my local dealer, he wanted to charge me $2000 over msrp price. he must have thoguht i was born yesterday. i asked him why the price was that high and he told its because the mazdaspeed 3's are in high demand and theyre going fast. they only made 5000 of these and theyre not going to last. so i played along and said ok let me go to the bank and get my down payment. i never went back. you screw with me i'll screw with you back. in the end i had to go to new jersey to get the car of my dreams. and guess wat? i got it for $1000 BELOW msrp. dont ask me how buti did

However, certainly its truethey restrict the number of Speed3s they bring to market, inan efforttocreate an air of excusivity, and to keep the price firm. TheSpeed3is an oddball sports car for North America (ie. it does not haveMustang or Corvette like looks, it doesn't have a V6 or V8, many would dismiss it because it has no trunk),meaning its going to appeal to only a certain segment of the population. It's not gonna sell like an Accord or Camry. If they imported 250,000 of them a year, no way would they sell them unless they slashed the price to below cost.
With the credit crunch going on, dealers are having trouble selling cars, financing is harder to get now, if you can get credit (or have the cash),a buyershould be able to swing a deal at this time.

they told me that i wouldnt be able to use the discount i get from UPS becuase the speed3 is being sold in such a limited quantity over here in america. So i bought the regular 3 instead for about 6k cheaper

I purchased a 2007 Mazda 3 GT w/ no add ons except tint about 2 months ago. I work for a company that has an X-Plan with ford, which translates to a S-Plan with Mazda. Bottom line I got Invoice automatically without any negotiation (19,200). However, this was not good enough...So I negotiated my trade in (2005 Scion Xb w/ 40k miles) up to 12,200 from 9,500 starting. I dont think the s-plan really saved me money, but it made it easy to concentrate on negotiating on one number, the trade in. I also got 4.9% 60 month financing with a 725 credit score.

I paid $35k OTD for my base Speed3

I really paid $400 less than sticker. Which is quite rare for a speed3.

Sale price is only part of it. If they gave you a "deal" on the sales price, but gave you $1K less than they should have on the trade in, then overall maybe it was not such a great deal. Also, if you took the dealer financing, and the interest rate is high, that also means it may not be the deal it might appear to be.
You have to look at the whole picture. In my purchase transaction, I spent more time arguing price on my trade in, than anything else.
