Default Problems pumping fuel

When I try to fill up my gas tank, it seems that the fuel is flowing back and stopping the pump. Kind of like when your tank is full. I know the tank is not even near full so thats not the problem. I have also had this problem at multiple locations so its not the gas station. Also I'm not sure if this is related but I think the problem started when the weather went down to far below freezing. I also left the car in a warm garage to overnight to make sure if something was frozen it would melt... please let me know your thoghts:co nfused:

there will be some sort of breather system on the fuel tank that allows the air from the gas tank to be displaced and if this is blocked you will get an effect similar to trying to fill up a coke bottle from a fast flowing faucet. I have no doubt one of the more technical guys will be long who can tell you exactly how to unblock this. in the meantime you should be able to get gas in but very slowly (sorry not sure how the gas pumps work in the US but we can control the speed of the flow in the UK).

Think overall this could be quite dangerous so would be worth getting sorted quickly

I 'think' someone said on one of these forums that it's due to overfilling. Overfilling pushes up on the check ball or trap door to keep fuel from running up the filler tube. That part is stuck up and has to be pushed back down. I don't want to give any tips so I'm not held responsible for any damage.
