Recharging your A/C system

Recharging your A/C system
My 2005 Mazda3 has very low mileage....just over 40,000 miles.
I use the A/C a lot. I am trying to be proactive and avoid any potential expensive repair on the A/C unit.
I seen the kits sold at Walmart and auto stores that recharge your A/C and also add a lubricant.
There is no info in the owner's manual when you should check or recharge your A/C. What do you all think about recharging your A/C system and when do you do it (or do you have it professionally done)?

Get it checked every few years to make sure you don't have a leak, make sure you're compressor is in good health, your condenser isn't clogged with junk, etc.
If everything is healthy you shouldn't have to recharge the system...and if you've gone this long without having it looked at, treat her right and spend a few bucks to have someone take a look...she's served you well.

these systems are sealed for life. You cannot do much more than keep the condenser clean (in front of the radiator) and keep the condensation drain hose open. Also replace the cabin air filter yearly or when needed.
I advice against even checking the AC pressure. There is really only one way for moisture to get into the system: through the check valves. If your AC develops a performance issue take it to a pro. You need to check both the high pressure and the low pressure to figure out what's happening inside. They have the tools and experience to do this.
