Default Running Wires Through (Or Around) Dash

I need to run a power cord from the top center of the dash to the cigarette lighter, and I'm afraid to cause damage.

Ideally, I would like to run the wire down into the panel where the nav system would be if I had one. Alternatively, I can run it along the driver's side of the dash, around the door gasket and under the panel to the center console. There doesn't seem to be enough flexibility between the panels to just push the wire into the seam between the textured and smooth sections.

Anyone else taken apart their dash? Any photos or illustrations of where the tabs that secure the panels are located?

Thanks,
Ken

Status: offline No pre-outs for adding an amp. Pulled audio from 06 with 6 disc to check. Try checking with dealer parts dept for zoom sticker also. We give ours away for nothing. Here are a couple of pictures if you want to pull your own radio.

1. Remove the decoration trim panel that runs along top of the radio and glovebox. Pull straight out towards you starting on the left to release the clips until you get to the far right side and then slide trim to the drivers side to release the last tab.

2. Only two phillips screws on top of radio to release and then pull radio straight out. Be careful of the display panel above the audio unit. It will pull out with the unit and is a pretty tight fit.

i copied this from another so the pictures did not show up, sorry about that. But the instructions are pretty simple, and should not be hard to follow. I actuall wanted to wire a car charger for my cell phone into my cigarette lighter, so i dont have to plug/unplug all the time. Let me know how you do it and how it works.

Thanks for that!

Once I knew to pop the carbon-fiber looking trim panel, it was a piece of cake.

Thanks, guys!

no problem, hopefully babyhuey's info provided more help than me. when you ran the wire to the cigarette lighter, howeasy was that to hook up? I would like to hook my car charger to it instead of having to plug it in all the time when i want to use it.

Actually, the device I ran the wire for has an on/off switch built into the lighter plug so I plan on keeping it plugged in all the time. I just ran the cable through the dash and snuck it up the passenger side of the center console.

However, I did a similar install on my Jeep a few years back. I went to Radio Shack and bought a female cigarette lighter adapter and switch that matched my interior well. I wired the adapter to the switch, tapping into a secondary power outlet, and hid the adapter behind the center console. That way, I could power the device without cutting off the plug and keep it removable.

Works well, except every once in awhile the plug loosens and I have to reach under the console to push it back into the adapter.
