And, a USA manufactured car, is inferior to one made in Asia. Malibus, Mazda6's, not near Mazda3 in quality. It's a fact.

But, to use your words, a point to consider is that American cars are made more cheaply...so they're cheaper to buy. I paid, with extended warranty, 12K for my Malibu (V6, 31K miles on an 04). A Mazda3 2.3L with similar mileage (albeit on an 05) was near 17K before anything. Bigger car for less money (as far as used cars go).
And don't get all uppity about the Mazda3's quality simply because it's manufactured in Japan - Mitsubishi still makes the Lancer in the Mizushima plant.
I'm really sick of people shooting down American cars - they're built to a price, and they're not lauded as the best cars in the country orthe world. Why do you have to keep knocking them?

A point to consider, if the shop looks itup, and discovers you HAVE an extended warranty, I wonder if "magically" they'll find something is wrong with your car. They know you won't b@tch toomuch, since you have the warranty, and at the same time, the repair shop can make some real money. Hmmmm.

Not necessarily. It's a nice thought and possibly true, up to a point.
I've been in line at shops around here lately. In one examplethey were giving the customerin front of me the business, and by talking in circles and car-speak, had talked her into $1500 work I'm quite sure her car didn't need, at least in part. She was someone who obviously didn't know anything about carspast putting the key in the ignition.I wished I could've taken her aside and told her that she was being taken for a ride.
I had my wife'sSaturn there for inspection and to check out the non-working A/C system. It had leaked down and I felt a can of stop-leak or a few new o-rings were gonna solve the problem. They told me that the system needed everything from new hoses and receiver/dryer to the condenser was leaking and that it would cost over $1100 to fix.
I told them it was (at the time) an 11 yr old Saturn that was not worth that kind of money and was there an alternative. They said, no.
I checked on-line for new hoses and a receiver/dryer using the same part numbers they provided in their estimate, even though they probably weren't necessary, bought a large can of R22 w/a hose attached and fixed the entire system forunder $200, $183 to be exact not including my time. Time to repair? Under 3 hrs, and I had to figure it out as I went along. Their estimate: 5.5.hrs.
BTW, and as a warning to all: This was a Firestone owned shop I am talking about.
I know ppl that work for places like this, Midas Muffler in particular, and their store manager's are really pressured by their corporate headquarters to make their monthly numbers, and it's ALWAYS increasing. Be forewarned if you use these places.
I think the warranty company would be a lot more strict than the average owner/driver about forking over the money to do the repair... especially if a particular shop was known to put in a lot of claims against the warranties they provide. I'm quite sure they keep track of these figures.

i bought it the same day when i drove my car off the lot. It was a company promotion, basically it was between the managers of each branch of mazda who were collaborating and using their own money to get sales.

Why do you keep bringing that up? Especially in this topic...two people have already stated the QC issues with ABS systems, and we all know the USA cars have been made more cheaply for years.

Look at ford F series trucks they have been some of the best built trucks in the work for a long time.
Plus don't for get Honda accords and camery's are built in the US. Any they ARE two of the most reliable cars in the world

RE: Should I buy the extended warrenty??
Hmmm. And I thought he (Uber) was just stating a fact?
Yes, Accords and Camry's are among the best in reliability, but would you want one?(BORRRRIIINNNGGGG!)
I'm so sick of seeing the new Camry's everywhere w/that ugly bull nose they have. I certainly hope that's not an automotivetrend that catches on.

RE: Should I buy the extended warranty??
I bought the extended on mine, they wanted $1100 for it I talked them down to $700.
I buy it on Every vehicle I buy. For all you nay sayers I will give you my reasoning, I have not had an motor Vehicle wreck in 9 years, but I still have auto insurance.
My F150 had the rear end rebuilt at 52,000 miles, would have cost me $1800, they also replaced the lower ball joints at the same time. the $1034.91 for the Extended warranty was cheap and paid for on the contract compared to 1800 out of your pocket down the road.
Now, I would not put the Warranty on your loan, because it will cost you more, the F150 I had 60 months 0% interest, I paid for the Mazda one already.

American nameplate cars - selected models - have come up quite a bit in recent years, but their reputation is still in toilet in many people's minds because of where quality was 6+ years ago.
I think one of the reasons a used Malibu is cheaper to buy is the expectation (maybe valid, maybe not) that it won't last like a used Mazda, Honda or Toyota. I am not trying to be in your face, just throwing out reality, and I'll confess I know nothing about the Malibu.
A friend of mine hasa 2006 Hyundai, the car has been absolutely problem free, but it wouldn't sell used forwhat a 2006 Accord or Camry would go for - mainly IMO because of the garbage Hyundai used tosell. Hyundai suffers just like GM, Ford and Dodge suffer now for the sins of the past.
Final point is there is plenty of data out there IMO confirming that the Japanese have been the automobile quality and reliabilityleaders of the world for some time (over not only North American nameplates, but alsoabove European models). Is there the occasional dud coming out of Japan (such as the Mitsubishi you mentioned)? I'm sure there is. But it would IMO be the exception.
If you believedifferent, okay. Maybe you'll think everything I wrote here is ridiculous BS (you wouldn't be the first on this board to occasionally think that ...).We're all intelligent adults capable of and free to have our own beliefs. I won't get into some big internet flame war over it, and I won't have hard feelings about it, just because someone else does not agree with me.
