Oh crap, i did this mod and never posted pics, yes there is a way, I bought 194 Super White Velocity bulbs, bulbs are not interchangable unless you remove the housing. I have tried to use HEAT gun and it only deformed the shape of the side marker itself , well the only way you can do it.

1. Remove Side markers
2. Make sure the wire hangs outside of the fender or else you may have to use a wire to get it back to connect it to your side marker again.
3. Take them home
4. Use or buy SOLDER GUN
5. Heat the gun, it is better to use FLATHEAD
6. While your SOLDER gun is hot cut the 2mm or 1/4 inch around the connector on the side marker
7. FLATHEAD makes a cut easy and straight line around, it is easier to work it backward this way.
8. After you cut it out, pull connector and out of the housing, the bulb is inside.
9. Replace the bulb
10. Place it together how you removed it
11. Use FLATHEAD SOLDER gun to squeeze plastics together
12. After everything is done, place it back, and you got yourself CLEAR side markers.

I may use my Phone camera to take 3 pics and you will see how simple it was.

The_Gray_Mazda6 did the mod for his Mazda6, maybe if you find his thread, you can find where he got them from ,and maybe they carry Mazda3 clear markers.

Yeah, so what you discovered is that the sidemarker isn't sealed with glue, and the plastic lens is actually formed around the housing. An alternative to melting it with a soldering iron is just to dremel it open, replace the bulb, and then glue it shut. Then you should be able to melt the glue in the future to replace the bulb. There was someone at mazda3forums that actually found some nice clear lens replacement side marker lights, but I can't find the thread right now. Also several other people have just bought generic replacements.

If you want to smoke the lenses the two ways I've seen are painting the lens, and using tint film. I personally prefer the tint film because it can be removed later if you decide you want to (not that replacement lights aren't only $14.....) and you get a much more consistant covering on the light. Search for some pics over at mazda3forums and you won't be disappointed.
