I agree with the whole "turning the radio up louder", cheaper.
And if that don't work, hearing protection is cheap also.

 

I agree with all - but I'm pulling the trigger anyway.
Taking the 3 in tomorrow for Dynamat Extreme. They'll have it for a couple of days.
Taking out seats, carpet, and anything else attached to the cabin and hatch floor - along with all the door panels. Mold this stuff in with rollers and heat.
I'm giving them a camera to take pictures throughout the process. About to find out if this stuff really works! I'll post some pics in a few days.

That job looks like it couldn't have been terribly cheap; do you mind if I ask how much you paid for it?

 

$1K - about what I was quoted in late 2006 to do my 2007 3 i touring (which I regretted I never did.)
Aspen Sound in Boise did an excellent job on my new 3.
It made the 10 speaker Bose system sound phenomenal. It cut down the road noise a great deal - but still not quite where I would like to be. Continuing to research additional economical ways to reduce the road noise further.

So did they just pull the door panels, put mat in place and put the panel back on? I'm sure there's a lot of noise that comes in from the outside skin of the door too - for that you need to take that plastic panel off to get inside.

That's what I was curious about Aubrey's project... did you do any sound proofing of the door panels? I've got that project slated for this summer, since I found that's where many rattles and other noise is coming from.

 

They applied as much mat as they could against the actual exterior door metal, and as you can see be the picture it was applied on all off that surface metal the panel goes up against. The ride has been real quiet since. A lot of the noise I hear now is coming from the roof and glass.

 

Aah - didn't think about the roof... have to add that to my list of what to cover.
