If it makes you feel any better the on-board computer estimates the mpg. As for the real-time usage it is pretty accurate it seems but with a 2 second refresh, i'm not sure if anywhat the delay on that being calc'd and being displayed is. So you really still need to do the math on the mileage at fill up. My dealer insisted and even directed me to the manual for proof that the trip computer is soley an estimate. As i've been cringing at about 21.5mpg now in my Speed3. (note that after the problems fixed and me paying more attention to it's drinking habits it is slowly rising)
If you read the book it is clear that the "Remaining Mileage on tank" is an estimate. It also says that the current mpg is calculated every two seconds and the trip average is every minute if my memory is correct. You can reset either of the averages (mpg or speed) by simply pressing the button for more than 1 second. I am planning to reset the mpg on the next tank of gas and see how close it is. Obviously there will be some variation, but it should be very close. If you don't reset them they will be way off from the current tank.

Today after I reset the mpg average I was running high 25's to low 26's with "rural" in town driving. I hardley got above 60 mph and only cruised for short distances. So far I am happy.

I'm averaging 21.5 mph or 312 mi. per tank. I can last for 5 days goin back and forthbtw my job and home with 1 tankful of gas and I drive 80mph in the morning when I'm late which is pretty much everyday. I dont think it's that bad comin from drivin a pathfinder.

Thatcomes to something like 16MPG! I would expect that kind of mileage at the track.

I drive 80 most of the time too, but I get 26.

I do a lot of mixed driving and also we have some stupid drivers in CA who don't know how to drive so you need to stay away from them which requires a quick spooling.

I just picked up the March edition of Sport Compact Car magazine and in the advice column a guy was asking about building his own air intake. In the reply it was stated that according to dyno testing being done at Bell Engineering just removing the airbox lid on the MS3gained 20 hp! They also are producing the EXED ecu controler that added 66 hp and 80 ftlbs of torquewith just tuning. It sounds like there is alot to be had pretty easily. Has anybody done any airbox mods?

Only removing the snokel looking peice on the fromt of the air box. I have run a few times without filter only short and in clean clear dry areas. Oddly dirt does'nt hurt the engine really (rocks twigs and baby bottles, DUH), it's water that you absolutly do not wanna be getting. Hydro lock devastation would come swiftly. I did notice a difference, and of course there was the oh i can hear it spool and such and it made me feel good. But it definatly did affect performance. Guess now it's just a race to get a CAI to production. CP-E has one but for somereason i'm hesitant to buy. maybe the tube looks small lol i dunno.

Hows about slapping one of these in your engine bay?

I personaly would not do it since I think the power output on the MS3 is perfectly fine and WHO NEEDS MORE ON THE STREET?!?!?!
