i just looked up the differences between streeunit and protegegarages mounts and basically they both do there jobs but since streetunits mount comes with only one durometer rating its also lower then protegegarages lowest one but the only thing i couldnt find out was what the AWR mount was made of not only that but the AWR mount is only one peice while streetunits mount is two peices so i dont know how a two peice can be stronger than a one peice other than they may be different materials?

 

Asthe owner of an AWR mount, I can tell you sincerely that it's polyurethane. They come in either a 77 duro, or an 88 duro.I have the 77 which is quite enough for me on the street. However, besides the difference in material, some of it's strength comes from the fact that the bushing itself is smaller in diameter.

Ok first let me appologize for my badly written previous post, my buddies laptop's shift key was stuck down so it was either write in all caps and look really stupid or just keep putting the word "also" to get the line, and the connection was pretty crappy....had to rewrite that about 3 times, anyway Virgin1 what i was wondering was the whole AWR mount poly or what cuz i know that the bushing is composed of poly i just didnt know what the acutual mount was made out of. I know that SU's mount is made of billet and the insert was also made of poly, but the strange thing about there mount is not only did they opt to construct the mount out of two peices but made the duro so much softer tham AWR's mount.

 

Statement from the product listing:

70 Durometer bushings are not recommended for this mount on the Mazdaspeed3. Aggressive driving on the 70 Durometer bushing may damage it. 88 Durometer is highly recommended if purchasing this mount for the Mazdaspeed3.

i remember reading about the AWR mount somewhere. somebody was claiming that it broke on them. ill search for it, hopefully i'll find it again.

OK, one at a time, from the top. (I am a former drummer/musician.)

Jaime, that is the OE mount and it had roughly 25K miles on it when I switched it out for the AWR. It's dirty only, not broken.

Tracker, The AWR housing is made of stamped steel and appears to be exactly like the original (a modified original piece, if you'd ask me. No difference, except...) except that the center hole for the bushing has a new piece of steel welded into it that was re-machined smaller for the new (smaller diameter) poly bushing. Look at the picture of the AWR and you'll see what I mean. If it was gonna break that's probably where, but the weld on mine looked perfect when I inspected it, and I did inspect it completely before the install.

Also, in reply to your other post, I don't understand that thinking as the 77 would be more flexible under load than the 88 absorbing more of the flex & torque? It seems like a simple case of the "mighty oak breaking in the wind vs. theforgiving Willow that bends, instead of breaking in the wind " to me. I would need more of their reasoning (answers) to be convinced of that. And, by that token, Tracker states that the SU is actually softer than the 77 duro AWR.

 

OK i installed the engine mount, and i gotta say i can feel the difference!!!! the throttle response feels so much meaner. i can feel the engine vibrating a bit, which doesn't bother me, buttttt i love how i can also feel the exhaust roar under my feet! lol.. and wheel hop is a thing of the past for me nowww!!! but one thing that bothers me is that i had gone through the dealership to replace the FIRST stock engine moutn (which broke because of the bolt). my friend who changed the mount showed me how the bushing on the SECOND stock engine mount (the one that was newly put into the car) was cracked. pictures are below. im probably powerless to do anything, but could i / should i show this to the dealership for any reason?

Hmmm. That would certainly make me worry if I owned an MS3w/stock engine mounts.

Just my .02, SPeeD, but if I were you I might go directly to Mazda USA. Write to them and include, or offer to include, the pictures. See what they say.
IMO, dealers are more likely to go with their gut reaction which could range from, "Oh my God!! This is dangerous and poses a hazard to any owener of the MS3!! We should contact the regional rep and report this." to "So? What do you want us to do about it?"
