IMO,
regular oil Semi synthetic Oil
- refined crude oil -mixture reg. oil and sythetic oil
(taken from the ground)-middle price range
-much cheaper -good for 5000km/3 months
-good for ~5000kms/3months.
Sythetic Oil
-made from plants, crops, etc etc
(ie, vegetable oil, etc)
-expensive. i pay ~$60 for full syn compared to ~$30 for reg.
-good for 7500km's or longer/5months.
then you have all the 'high rpm' oil, 4x4 oil, high mileage, etc etc

AND it'll safely gotwice as long too, some say up to 18K miles.
I change mine every 10K miles, a filter and top-off after 5.
In my old Honda, which I really beat the **** out of btw, I converted to the "old" Moble1 @ around 80-90K miles and drove the car until it nearly (and literally) rusted out beneath me to 187K.I only changed the oil every 15K... the filter too, though I would NOT recommend doing that.
No problems that weren't there before with that car, even up to the end.

I don't recall seeing that particular video bit others like it. I my case, seeing it is not always believing it. No oil and plain water in it's place???
In either case, I should've changed my filter more regularly in the Honda.I just didn't know any better at the time. 'Didn't have any money either.....

There's plenty of stuff on the web that says Synthetics are better ... but it seems all of it is on websitesrun bypurveyors of synthetic oil. Think about that.
The engineers of the world can make statements like, "synthetic oil won't evaporate at 325F like conventional oil will" or "in the 10 ball bearings in a cup test, synthetic is better." The question is, in the real life of an engine, what does it all mean?
If someone can provide an independent reference vouching for the superiority of synthetic oil in real life, I would love todive intoit.
If I lived somewhere where the temperature was regularly 10F or colder, or 100F or hotter, I might spring for it (especially the cold temp, asI cannot dispute that pure syntheticflows at sub zero temps much better than regular oil does)... but otherwise, I question the value.
Synthetic or not, I can't imagine not changing the oil for double the recommended period, just because Mobil or Castrol says I can.
