Is there any hope for a better infotainment system?

I have a 2021 CX5 and most of the navigation issues are still with it.
The inability to mess with navigation is probably due to fed safety rules. But why couldn't a front seat passenger (the car knows if it is occupied) be allowed to operate navigation?
I would much prefer a touch screen for text entry. My 20 year old Garmin gps touch screen was far quicker to use than the sucky wheely ****.

Is this still a thing nowadays? No software updates which solved mentioned problems? In reviews I saw online everyone was like: Infotainment system is working nice and steady, fast response rate, good navigation etc. Is the system still downloading contacts on each connection?
