I have a 2005 Mazda 3 s sedan with the 4 speed sport trans. Mine makes a clinking sound when I down shift and sometime when shifting from park to reverse. I took it to the shop and first they told me it needed a new transmission. For that kind of work they have to get regional managers approval. He came out and told them that all 3's with the sport trans do it. He actually took a couple of 3's off the lot and show the service reps. Has anyone else heard anything different?

ya i got a 2k5 m3 also. from about 2 weeks after i picked it up i noticed that the trans. would give a jerk when ever the car shifted from 1st to 2nd, but not all the time (usually when the rpm's are around 2000). now for a bout 2 weeks i've been having the same problem like you guys when putting it in reverse from park!

i just hope mazda gets this problem looked after fast!

peace

I have a 2005 Mazda3 Auto with about 8K miles. When the car sits for a day or two once I drive it the transmission jerks hard when going from 1st to 2nd gear. It only does this for about five mintues (until it warms up). I am getting ready to call the dealership. Anyone gotten an answer from a Mazda dealer what the problem may be?

I just got my car (Mazda 3S Automatic) back from the dealer. They had to contact the Tech's at Mazda HQ to figure it out. The computer is set to rev the engine at higher rpm's (about 1300) when you start it "cold" (after sitting for a day or more.) They said they did this so the car would warm up to operating temperature faster. So, if you are cold starting you need to let it sit for about 30 seconds and wait for the rpm's to go down to about 1100 before taking off. I can see what they are talking about and now wait until the rpm's drop. This has resolved my issue.

I hate tranny probs first of all.. my integra (old ride) had to get a new auto tranny put in it and that was a nightmare after the 1st and 2nd gears shattered....

anyways.. i have a 04 mazda 3 i and it just hit 20k miles! ... i noticed it shiffting really hard from 1st to 2nd... but i do believe it is because i dont sit and let the car warm up... that happens to EVERY car..!

Now when I am in park and reversing and come to a stop I hear kinda a knock or a bang... i thought it was the brakes... and i took it to the dealership and they checked and i have about 75% of all my brakes left...

so maybe it is the tranny.. hopefully nothing will happen.. i have a warranty thank goodness.. BUT i heard of a girl having a 04 mazda i also that turned out to be a used rental car when she bought it, and at 15k miles the tranny crashed on the highway in the middle of the road!! mazda got her a new tranny , but she said the towing was about $350 and she thankfully bought an aftermarket warranty that included the towing expense... geez hope that doesnt happen to me. I bought my car used, but its in prestine condition and only had one owner...

Please keep the results posted if anyone ends up getting out of the dealership with an explanation!

I've noticed a kinda knockin sound coming from the rear right side of my 04 M3. I thought it was the breaks. Does it sound like a single deep tone knock? Kinda like something is loose in the trunk?

Sounds like more than one thing is happening to create the things being experienced. Have not had any shift concerns yet with a 3. Yes there is a Transmission Module and Engine computer update available on both the Mazda 6 4 cyl and v6 for a 1-2 shift shock. There is not any update yet available for the Mazda 3 and do not know if there will be. If enough complaints are registered by consumers then there probably will be. Does the click noise you hear when changing directions or shifting out of park sound to be from the front of vehicle? If so it may be from a stick/slip problem with the drive axle splines to which there is a repair now available. Tell them of the noise or duplicate it for them and say you heard there was a TSB available to fix. As for the $350 tow bill. Any towing that is needed is covered under the manufactures warranty by roadside assistance at no cost to you. A rental car is also free if vehicle needs to be left for repairs. At least in the US I should add.
